New York is discovered by the Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazo when he was sailing in France. In 1609, an Englishman by the name of Henry Hudson reached the bay and claimed it. In the same year, another explorer named Samuel de Chaplain came to New York and owned the northern part of the city. Director General Peter Minuit bought Manhattan Island from Native Americans and founded the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam (a former name of New York). New York has been ruled over by the Dutch in 1624. It was conquered by the English after over 40 years. The British named New York to honor the duke of York and Albany.

New York is the largest state in the United States and is considered as the most popular and well-known city in the world. New York remains one of the most developing states in the US. Different names have been given to New York because of the city’s wealth and various natural resources. From the skyline of New York rises the Empire State Building that symbolizes New York’s development. It is also a landmark and icon of different culture. New York is also known as Excelsior State because of the city’s motto ever forward. Another nickname of New York is the Knickerbockers State which came from the pants worn by the Dutch who settled in New York. The Big Apple is popularized by the turf racing writer John Fitz Gerald.

New York is known as the most celebrated and has been a favorite travel destination for everyone. It offers various tourist spots and attractions that a simple day trip will not be enough. Major tourist spots of New York include Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Terminal, Rockefeller Center, Ellis Island, World Trade Center Site and The American Museum of National History, Broadway Theater, Times Square, Bronx Zoo, South Street Seaport, Botanical Gardens and a lot more. New York also offers native enclaves, such as Jackson Heights, Flushing, and Brighton Beach. New York has more than 28,000 acres of parkland for public beaches. Central Park in Manhattan is the most visited park in New York or even in the United States. Named as the city that doesn’t sleep, excitement and breath-taking experience in New York never end.
