New York: Premiere Destination Like No Other

New York is discovered by the Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazo when he was sailing in France. In 1609, an Englishman by the name of Henry Hudson reached the bay and claimed it. In the same year, another explorer named Samuel de Chaplain came to New York and owned the northern part of the city. Director General Peter Minuit bought Manhattan Island from Native Americans and founded the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam (a former name of New York). New York has been ruled over by the Dutch in 1624. It was conquered by the English after over 40 years. The British named New York to honor the duke of York and Albany.

New York is the largest state in the United States and is considered as the most popular and well-known city in the world. New York remains one of the most developing states in the US. Different names have been given to New York because of the city’s wealth and various natural resources.
